چکیده
2.1 Drug Profile Levetiracetam is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat epilepsy. Levetiracetam may selectively prevent hyper synchronization of epileptic form burst firing and propagation of seizure activity (1, . It is thought to be involved in the regulation of vesicle exocytosis. Levetiracetam may help control seizures in children. It is also used in veterinary medicine for similar purpose. It is also used to treat neuropathic pain.

Electrophysiological, neurochemical and regional effects of levetiracetam in the rat pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy
This study compared levetiracetam (Keppra) with reference antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in the rat pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy. Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings showed that i.p. administration of valproate (300 mg/kg), phenobarbital (5 mg/kg) and clonazepam (0.5 mg/kg) all significantly delayed the appearance of the first epileptic spike discharge in hippocampus as well as syn...
متن کاملSingle-unit analysis of substantia nigra pars reticulata neurons in freely behaving rats with genetic absence epilepsy.
PURPOSE The substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNpr) is assumed to be involved in the control of several kinds of epileptic seizures, an assumption based mostly on neuropharmacologic evidence. However, only very few neurophysiological recordings from the basal ganglia support neuropharmacologic data. We investigated the electrophysiologic activity of SNpr neurons in rats with genetic absence epi...
متن کاملSleep states differentiate single neuron activity recorded from human epileptic hippocampus, entorhinal cortex, and subiculum.
Animal models of epilepsy have shown that synchronous burst firing is associated with epileptogenesis, yet the evidence from human studies linking neuronal synchrony and burst firing to epileptogenesis remains equivocal. Sleep-wake states have been shown to differentially modulate the generation of epileptiform EEG spikes between brain regions of greater and lesser seizure-generating potential,...
متن کاملOptogenetic activation of VGLUT2-expressing excitatory neurons blocks epileptic seizure-like activity in the mouse entorhinal cortex
We investigated whether an anti-epileptic effect is obtained by selectively activating excitatory neurons expressing ChR2 under the promoter for the synaptic vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (VGLUT2). VGLUT2-expressing cells were optically stimulated while local field potential and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings were performed in mouse entorhinal cortical slices perfused with the proconvuls...
متن کاملThe effect of cabergoline and levetiracetam on the histological and stereological structure of the cerebellar cortex, hippocampal and cerebellum in a model of PTZ-induced seizure kindling in rats
Background: Seizure is a chronic neurological disease that may have non-neurological origins such as astrocytes and microglia. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of alone and co-administration of cabergoline and levetiracetam on the histological and stereological structure of the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum following chronic seizures in rat. Methods...
